8/1/2023 0 Comments Alula experiences![]() One of the most famous tombs in Hegra is the Qasr Al Farid, which translates to “the lonely castle.” This tomb is unique in its design and location, being a standalone structure carved from a single rock formation. These tombs were not only for burial purposes but also served as places of worship and commemorating important events or people. The tombs feature intricate carvings and decorations, showcasing the impressive skills of the Nabataean artisans. The site comprises more than 100 tombs carved into the sandstone cliffs, dating back to the 1st century CE. Hegra served as their southern capital, a significant stopover for trade routes between South Arabia and the Mediterranean. They were known for their sophisticated water harvesting and irrigation systems and remarkable rock-cut architecture. The Nabataeans were a nomadic Arab tribe that established a kingdom in the Arabian Peninsula around the 4th century BCE. This area was the second-largest city of the Nabataean kingdom, after Petra in Jordan, and the leading trade and caravan center of the north-western Arabian Peninsula. In 2008, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is considered one of the most significant archaeological sites in the country. Hegra, also known as Mada’in Saleh, is a historic site in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ula region. The city has been undergoing a massive transformation, with new hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions built to cater to the growing number of visitors. The Saudi Arabian government has invested heavily in developing Alula as a world-class tourist destination in recent years. Later, the Nabataeans, the Romans, and the Islamic Caliphate all left their marks on the city, with each civilization adding to its cultural heritage. The history of Alula dates back to the 6th century BC when the Lihyanite kingdom ruled the region. This ancient city, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, has recently become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all around the world. Meanwhile, Barzan and Al-Makher, the main local cafes are collaborating with the RCU to ensure a year-round offering of fabulous local cuisine.Alula, located in the northwest region of Saudi Arabia, is a historical city that has been the center of many civilizations throughout the centuries. Restaurants have also been carefully considered and more announcements about some exciting new dining choices are to be made in the coming weeks. The farm includes 2.3 million palm trees and 29 different citrus fruits and so on. Farms play a major role in the economy and daily life of AlUla. The AlUla Fresh Farm visit gives tourists an insight into agricultural life with fruit picking, animal feeding and seed planting for a more relaxing experience. The Oasis trial, Dune buggy experience, Bike Park, Zipline are the upcoming attractions of the tourist place. A leisurely two-hour cycling ride, which runs through palm groves and citrus trees, is another trail accessible from mid-November. Visitors can enjoy the scenery, rock art, dunes and peaks of the desert of the Al-Gharameel rocks, from mid-November. A new Adventure Canyon area will provide those looking for high-energy thrills with a suite of experiences. There will be plenty of other events outside of the heritage sites to keep tourists amused. The tourist experience will include Rawi tours of Tantora Plaza and views from AlUla citadel, experiencing a busy souq, handicraft pavilions, souvenir shops and new dining choices with complete conservation. The other parts of AlUla Old Town will be open to the public from late-December. Live immersion shows will also be held in heritage spot, also it allows audio tours and provides opportunities to the visitors to roam in a vintage jeep. A family-friendly 40-minute “Archaeology for Everyone” workshop will allow children to know about the art of digging artifacts from December. In February, archaeologists started detailed excavations at Dadan to investigate the 200,000-year history of AlUla. ![]() The new changes allow visitors to become an archaeologist for a day in the ancient city of Dadan, the capital of the Dadanite and Liyhanite kingdoms and one of the most advanced cities in the first millennia BC. It is the home for more than 100 tombs including Lihyan son of Kuza. The Hegra is Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest conserved site of the Nabataean civilization south of Petra. The reopening of the heritage site was announced earlier this month. The first to reopen for bookings are heritage sites, Hegra, Jabal Ikmah and Dadan. The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has revealed a detailed package of experiences that will be introduced in the coming months. The historic crossroads of ancient civilizations, AlUla has officially reopened for visitors.
